dear john
i have recently heard of a group of TKD masters, 7th dans up to 10th dans, who believe the pure traditional TKD has no effectiveness at all in combat. they are currently developing a system that has many circular moves and has cut out about 80% of TKD moves. anyone hear of this group? i have heard that it is growing popularity in russia even though it is considered by the founders by far incomplete. the funny thing is that i know im wrong and i know your right, yet you keep argueing like it will change my mind. you should really know, you dont have to be right to win:)
foreveryoung001
I've never heard of them, but I think you will find people like that in any sport, activety, hobby, etc... that you are involved with. A lot of it gets down to the old debate of which style is best, and IMHO there will never be a style that will be conclusevily better than another for every person in every situation. So if these folks want to learn, experiement, and find something that works better for them, then I say more power to them. I don't know why they have to cut down a particular style in doing so, but that could just be human nature... Student: "Why did you hit that guy with a chair? Why didn't you use your karate?"Master: "Hitting him with a chair was the only karate I could think of at the time."Lesson: Practice until you don't have to think. Shane
Never heard of this group your talking about. Let us know if you find out more information, it sounds interesting. I would like to see what type of system their developing. You said you think they are cutting about 80% of the tkd moves out. Well then it would not even be a system based on TKD, so I'm wondering where they are pulling these techniques from. Maybe Sambo, since you did say you think its getting popular in russia anyways let us know. tommarker
There are subgroups in every art who feel their respective arts are too complicated and pare things down to the "essential" techniques. So let's say we pare down TKD to a few techniques that are taught at some level in all schools: front snap kick reverse punch knee strike palm strike head butt elbow strike ridge hand side kick knife hand Sounds good to me. But the problem is that this stuff is the root of TKD/karate and is ignored by many other people because it's boring. There's a reason when these groups sit down and write down those long lists of training requirements or oaths that "practice basic techniques all the time" or "repeatedly practice basics" is stated. Basics are what makes up traditional TKD. So that part of your statement confuses me. Maybe you meant olympic tournament stuff. I'm no longer posting here. Adios. Master Jules
Let them try to develop their own system.....Like Forever Young said..."More power to them"....Nothing wrong with that at all.....but there shouldnt be any dispariging remarks about any other groups. "Cant we all just get along"....lol ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
