"My theory is, that mandarin and Cantonese has different ways of saying it"

it's not theory.

mandarin and cantonese are almost two different languages that just happen to use the same written form.

different langauge=different pronunciation.

it's hardly rocket science.

"Then its settled then. In the northern China its called Shifu, In the southern China its called Sifu"

nope.

it depends on what they are speaking.

the mandarin pronunciation is close to 'shi-fu'

the cantonese pronunciation is close to 'si-fu'

like the guys said before.

For me I can call my teacher whatever I want, Shifu, Sifu or even Lao Shi (meaning teacher in mandarin). One more thing you guys should know there is not just Mandarin and Cantonese in China there are others like Shanghainese( my native tongue ), Hokkian ( or Taiwanese ), Hakka, Sichuan and many more. We all have our very own way to call our master or teacher.

Hmmm...but wouldnt it be kind of respectless of me to call him by another titel, eventhough it means the same?

I remember in the wt classes, there was a guy who called the teacher sensei. I was about to say "hey dude. Its sifu. SIFUUU. sensei is japaNESE, and this is CHInese". But I figured. Why not just let the kid. Afterall. In the end, it doesnt matter, because its only tradition.

it's not another title.

it is the same, just pronounced differently.

if this is what you think,

then why ask about it in the first place?

and tradition has nothing to do with this.

the guy used the wrong terms from another language.

it's like calling a potato a 'pomme du terre' in your english class.
