Hudson
I did that, I'm not looking for information on webpages, I'm looking for personal opinions and comparisons. Shane
I cant really say which is better, I will tell you I'm not familar with those styles, but a lot of it comes down to a good school with a good instructor who is open minded. not the name of style A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!! 3030
this is a answer to your question . l dont go on these sites but noticed your question and maybe able to help. l am a 7th generation disciple of pak mei . one of nam gings people when he was president of pak mei boxing association . my old style was hung kune or gar , both are the same . a l was a freind of dan pais when he had schools in conneticut . l helped him with the collection of material he used to put what became pai lum to-gether . he asked for a few sets that he thoght would be usefull. originally it was a kempo from ed parker for the more advanced and the beginners was okinawan fist . he had a 8th degree from robert trias,s orginization . l have a picture of him with ed , and bruce lee and some others. so its really turned into a kempo . hung style if you find a good teacher (mine learned from one of lum sai wing sons) . its a excellant style if your teacher knows more than sets (can fight with it) and doesnt look like karate , no disrespect intended . its a medium to long range fighting distance . l still remember my favourite set from over 30years ago tiger and crane . if its taught properly its fast and powerfull with low kicks (waist and down ) . great excercise lots of passion . if one is younger its great, but for a older person it can be difficult as stances are lower than most. horse for example should be so the thighs are paralell to the floor. pak mei l became a disciple decades ago and still practice is like university compareed to high school . its daoist in nature , stances more natural in height . its a in close with low kicks fighting style . very fast hands with trapping and short punches with a pheonix fist and snake hands. the footwork moves on angles and is very strong . youd start with jik bo and work up to possibly ng hung mor. my favourite is gau bo tau . has great movement for fighting in a close space . look for some teacher with a background from cheung lai cheun or ng nam ging my si-gung or chan dor. make sure he is something from that line. theres lots useing the name but not the style. l have been a martial artist for about 47, 48 years or so. if your looking for traditional do hung gar , or pak mei whatever suits you from a teacher that doesnt teach for northamerican tourneys . this way youll get what works for street defence . my choice of course is pak mei . if you are in nyc look for someone from chan dor line he was my si-gungs sifus tode cheung lai chuen and now hes old but a elder student teaching you would be excelant. hope this helps if someone is makeing a choice. l spoke with chan dors nephew and l think they still teach behind closed doors but if you look hard you should find them. he took my style to a high level and was anoted fighter.
