SevenStar Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 yeah, that's true - in boxing and thai boxing, contact with the back of the fist is prohibited - probably because there is less padding on that side... but you can hit with a bare elbow, go figure...
KnuckleSandwich Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Truthfully all kick boxing is is watered down Muy Thai. Muy Thai has almost all the same strikes and defensive techniques as kick boxing but Muy Thai has more of is close quarters power strikes such as knees and elbows. In a street fight alot of fights are taken to the ground or end up with punches wailing on top of each other. A quick elbow and knee is alot of time the only thing you can do if you can't give a full punch, unless you know a grappling art. Over all kick boxing had most of its history from Muy Thai and western boxing.
SevenStar Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 actually, kickboxing is more of a derivative of karate. back in the day when "full contact karate" was becoming popular... it is what became kickboxing. the competitors at the time were frustrated with the point scoring system and wanted harder contact. western boxing has definitely had a huge influence over it, and recently, thai boxing has as well.
