searcher Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Go to a search engine and type in aikido kumitachi and/or kenjutsu kumitachi. This will get you headed in some direction. Before you get started and before I give you too much direction I have to ask, How much experience do you have in the martial arts? "let those who shed blood with me be forever known as my brother."
battousai16 Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 the trouble with sword is that there are so many little intracacies to sword, that you can't really learn it without a good instructor. a simple cut, unsheathing and sheathing... right down to finger placement. i've always had a wicked hard time with it, and i've been told i have a knack for it. it's something you can't get off of a website. "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
Ken Morgan Posted October 19, 2004 Posted October 19, 2004 Canada is a big place... Where are you located? You may want to try, http://www.uoguelph.ca/~iaido/ or http://kendo-canada.com/

Jinxx0r Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 Yeah, I am just about to start Karate, I live in Ottawa. I just want to kind of play around with it....thanks for the info.. buy a book on kendo... this one is pretty good (I have this one at home): http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?userid=O24Vs5FAbR&isbn=4770021194&itm=1 and then get an instructor who can teach you (like someone else mentioned). Unless of course you instructor also teach sword. "In the beginner's mind there are many possibilites, but in the expert's there are few."
Hudson Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 The only way to get a quick start is to attend a great workshop. I recently had the pleasure of attending a bokken workshop and learning more in 3 hours then I ever could on the internet. But to learn Bokken/Katana styles, you need a school and an instructor. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
