Jiggy9 Posted December 30, 2001 Posted December 30, 2001 I was just re reading some of the posts on Kiyas...when it occured to me, how many of you would actually make use of and scream a kiya at the top of youre lungs in a real street fight? I know in tournaments and so on, we all do it...but in the intensity of a real street fight would you?? Obviously the likes of Bruce Lee did ( Okay, well he made some sort of funny noises ) but I dont think I would... Joecooke007 Posted December 30, 2001 Posted December 30, 2001 I would usually grunt (as I do for power in some other situations), but if I was delivering the final hit that would knock 'em flat I would scream with all my might to concentrate power. Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee
SaiFightsMS Posted December 31, 2001 Posted December 31, 2001 In self defense applications it isn't neccessariyly the amount of noise being made as it is the forcefull exhalation in the process of executing the technique to strengthen it. Remember one of the things that happens when a kiai is let out is that the muscles tighten - also importand when executing a block. Conversely a large amount of noise might bring assistance.
