try81 Posted October 12, 2004 Posted October 12, 2004 I have heard using ankle weight (taking care in not damaging joints) is a great way to develop kicking technique. I have just starting trying them out a few days ago, so I haven't seen any results yet except the side of my quads and glutes feel burnt. Anyone have any experience or suggesstions whit ankle weight training?
Topic Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Theyre good but really bad on the joints in long term use, if you are using them DO NOT kick fast or snap the kicks out, you have to practice slow kicks, for example, do a side kicks really slow and lock it out for 3 - 5 seconds and leave it there, than bring it back slowly. same with round kick, and possibly every ground kick.
Little Dragon Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 whut u should do is where them when u go jogging..it doesnt injury the joints and will strengthen your legs. ''I know what your thinking.........did I shoot you 3 times? or did I shoot you 472 times?''
try81 Posted October 13, 2004 Author Posted October 13, 2004 I don't actually kick with them What I will do is hold my leg in a side chamber for 10 seconds, then extend it slowly out to a side kick for 10 seconds, then back to chamber. Then I will change angles on my side kick. Like one straight in front, then one 45 degrees, then another to the side. I have only been doing it abou t a week, every other day to give my muscles rest.
try81 Posted October 13, 2004 Author Posted October 13, 2004 I should try them jogging. Jet Li did that in Fist of Legend (my favorite Kung Fu movie besides Shaolin vs. Lama) If Jet Li does it, it has got to be effective
tommarker Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 keep in mind Jet Li has been doing hardcore wushu training since he was 4 and his body can take a lot of abuse. Personally, I think those years are starting to take their toll on Jet and his body is slowly turning old and busted, but that's another topic I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
okc_deputy16 Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 use them only for your forms not on kicking the bag or anything but yeah a great tool "It is a brave act of valor to condemn death, but where life is more terrible than death it is then the truest valor to dare to live." - Sir Thomas Brown I bring the pain hope you can take it-Cash Monroe

try81 Posted October 13, 2004 Author Posted October 13, 2004 Yeah its pretty sweet. I also like the demonstration of the 360 jump back kick (A popular kick in Tang Soo Do) Li does.
47MartialMan Posted October 14, 2004 Posted October 14, 2004 MenteReligieuse Gremelin Gung Fu-cannot be performed in "bright light" I had a realtive that was on a "jogging kick". He had used ankle weights. But, he had twisted his ankle severely. From what he had told me, via his doc, that the ankle weight had contributed to the pressure of the twist.
