Joecooke007 Posted December 30, 2001 Posted December 30, 2001 Has anyone heard of the 47 Samurai? They are a great legend in Japan. I just recently found out that my great great great grandfather was one of the 47 Samurai. Just a cool bit of info. Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee

Joecooke007 Posted December 30, 2001 Author Posted December 30, 2001 I'll make the story of the 47 Samurai as short as I can. A lord (Kira) pestered another lord (Asano) to get Asano to strike him (Kira) with his sword. Kira then ordered Asano to commit harikari (kill himself). In the years following Asano's (he's dead now) followers built an army of 47 Samurai. The Samurai set up a master plan to kill Kira, and they got revenge. Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee
Chris from CT Posted January 7, 2002 Posted January 7, 2002 A little while ago I picked up the DVD of the 47 Ronin. It's pretty good! It's one of the old versions from 1941-42 (around World War 2). The version I have is black and white ( no kidding Chris LaCavaJung Ki Kwan of Connecticut"Man is born soft and supple,in death he is hard and rigid..." LaoTzu

TKD_McGee Posted January 9, 2002 Posted January 9, 2002 Is that the movie that they show in the Independent movie channel once in awhile... Its about a village of japanese people who are attacked by bandits every year during the harvest, but this year they decide to fight back. If thats the movie your talking about then it was great, i seen it 2 times and it was well worth it. It's perhaps my favorite old movie of all time... its brilliant for being such an old movie, and its long too! Do unto others, as they done to you.

If that is the movie you're talking about, I believe it's called "The Seven Samurai." It's a different move from "The 47 Ronin," but I like that you too! Somebody told me that the American movie "The Dirty Dozen" is the modern day version of "The Seven Samurai." I haven't seen "The Dirty Dozen" so I don't know for sure. Take care Chris LaCavaJung Ki Kwan of Connecticut"Man is born soft and supple,in death he is hard and rigid..." LaoTzu
TKD_McGee Posted January 11, 2002 Posted January 11, 2002 Nope, Dirty Dozen is way different. THere is more character definition it seems! Do unto others, as they done to you.
SBN Doug Posted January 11, 2002 Posted January 11, 2002 No no no. The Magnificent 7 (gunfighters) is the modern version of the 7 Samurai. They help a small Mexican village fend off banditos that always raid the place for supplies. Dirty Dozen is the WW2 movie of guys on the army's version of death row that go on basically a suicide mission into Germany. Both had Charles Bronson in them, though.
