piratebd Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Hey everyone...I acttually have a favour to ask of you ppl...here goes: Can someone send me shinaken/boken/anything that can be used to practice kendo or kenjutsu specifications [links are also appreciated]?? As in something wooden, the same size and wight of a real katana and creatable by wood [not a pile of dried bamboo ala shinai which is too expensive and takes too long to make by myself]. Also, some links to where I can learn some kenjutsu techniques/special stuff/in-depth stuff!!! Thank You Meditation on inevitable death should be performed daily.Anger is a gift.--Hagakure
battousai16 Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 well, i guess i'll take initiative then. your best bet is to...buy a bokken. if you want proper weight, length, balance, etc., a stick you find in the front yard just wont do. as for instruction, i've yet to see a half way decent internet link, or book. sword is just something you need an instructor for. Sauzin Posted October 15, 2004 Posted October 15, 2004 Maybe this will help, Some pointers for making a boken: http://www.uoguelph.ca/~kataylor/bokuto.htm Some variants and measurments: http://sdksupplies.netfirms.com/cat_stdweapons.htm http://sdksupplies.netfirms.com/cat_bokuto.htm Kim Taylor is a master wood worker. There are lots of pictures on his site and some interesting designs. Good luck! -Paul The only two things that stand between an effective art and one that isn't are a tradition to draw knowledge from and the mind to practice it.
