Master Jules Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Im just curious if anyone has ever been "uchideshi", a "live in" student ? The reason I ask is because from time to time, one of my masters comes to live with me for a while. Hes very "eccentric", and life around the house is like a non-stop training session.....theres always a lesson being learned about something, not to mention him always attacking me.....lol......I keep weapons literally all over the house, and last night, upon my arrival home from work at 330am.....he leaps out of the shadows and starts attacking me with the shinai that we had been working with that afternoon......I had to throw someone out of the bar towards the end of the night, so my adrenaline was still going, and we had quite a little battle in my living room....lol......needless to say.....my forearms are a little sore from getting smashed with that damn shinai which he had tightened all the way so it was nice and hard...... Anyway.....back to the point.....has anyone ever lived with a master ?.....what were your experiences like ? ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Master Jules Posted October 13, 2004 Author Posted October 13, 2004 anyone at all ???????? ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Shorinryu Sensei Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 I would hate to have noone respond to your thread MJ, so here's SOMETHING at least! I've had a couple of student stay at my place for short periods (days to weeks), but not in the sense you're talking about. While they were here, we trained quite a bit and I showed them things that I hadn't really showed anybody else at that point. It was kind of nice actually. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
Master Jules Posted October 13, 2004 Author Posted October 13, 2004 Hey SS.....thanks Ive been on both sides of the fence, having had students stay with me, as well as my master.....definetely a learning experience both ways ! ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Bleeding Lion Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 wow, thats cool MJ, i hope i'll have that kind of opportunity in the future. How long does your master usually stay at your place? We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence thus, is not an act, but a habit. --- Aristotle
ncole_91 Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Yeah that woudl be cool, would probably learn alot more also...

Shane Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 Our master only invites the adult female students for in house training. This making all of us what to become a master someday!!!!! Just kidding, I have never had the chance A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!
aefibird Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 I have never been an Uchideshi, nor do I know anyone who has been one. However, I'd like to get the chance to be a "live-in" student someday, even if was only for a week or so. The story about your master jumping out on you with a Shinai - that's great! It reminds me a little of me and a friend of mine, who also does karate. Everytime I go round to her house or she comes to mine we always seem to end up doing some training together, even if it's an impromptu battle with a couple of nitonbo! "Was it really worth it? White Warlock Posted October 13, 2004 Posted October 13, 2004 he leaps out of the shadows and starts attacking me with the shinai that we had been working with that afternoonhehe, reminds me of the movie, "Pink Panther."
