Shane Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Hey everyone I'm wondering what you think of using the regular walking cane as a weapon. I've been training with it for awhile now and I find it very effective and a realistic weapon that is legal to carry. Ofcourse I have my other favorites, the blade, single stick, pocket stick but let me know what you think of the Cane A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!
foreveryoung001 Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 My grand master is a big believer in the walking cane. We don't really do much in the way of training with weapons in TKD, but in TKD Chung Do Kwan, we have one-step drills with the cane. We don't do anything flashy with it, like you might see with some other weapons at tournys and such, but we do use it and practice with it as very viable self defense weapon. Student: "Why did you hit that guy with a chair? Why didn't you use your karate?"Master: "Hitting him with a chair was the only karate I could think of at the time."Lesson: Practice until you don't have to think.
Shorinryu Sensei Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Personally, I feel the cane is the besty possible "stick" type weapon there is. I like a good, old fashioned wooden cane with the hook end myself. You can do all sorts of trapping techniques, strikes of course, deflections, take downs..the list goes on. I'm presently trying to bget my class to all go out and get themselves their own canes, as one of the two that I have broke a few weeks ago and I have just the one of my own to use now. I've been looking at thrift stores in every town I go through and trying to buy up any I can find (cheap is good), but I'll tell you..they're hard to find (darn old people getting them I suppose! ). My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
Shane Posted October 8, 2004 Author Posted October 8, 2004 Well if your looking for a good training cane I found that canemasters https://www.canemasters.com has some good ones. They have a few for training purposes that open up the crook of the cane a little to help prevent injury during training. Your looking at canes from $19 - $300 so you did say you were looking for cheap but you might want to check these out. I bought an instructor cane from them and my sister has their standard cane both nice canes. I believe they might offer wholesale also, CaneMasters hand shapes their own canes they are pretty amazing A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!
Shorinryu Sensei Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Yes, I've looked at those before. Still trying to find cheaper if possible..but that's always an option. Thanks. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"

47MartialMan Posted October 10, 2004 Posted October 10, 2004 Yes, make sure that it is a walking cane and not one for decor/decorating.
Kicks Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Our 3rd dans train in using a walking cane as the weapon of self defense in the Hapkido part of our training. It's a requirement for 4th dan testing. when you create the world's largest trailer park, you're going to have tornadoes
47MartialMan Posted October 11, 2004 Posted October 11, 2004 Yes, I was aware if that. The "famous Hapkido Cane" and its testing
