When I was younger, I was in the Royal Canadian Army Cadets, a youth movement similar to the Boy Scouts but it has affiliation with the Canadian Forces. Anyway I could go on about it but I had a similar story in that my father was joining as a civilian instructor and I had a waning interest because of the challenges involved. I didn't much like it at the time, and he helped me get through it. Not by ordering me to continue with it, but ti stick to my commitment, and see it through because that was what life was about. Years later I'm happy with my father keeping me in it.

Granted, the army cadets was something a little different than 4 nights of karate. I think that she should be given a choice to stick with it in a diminished role, not cut off entirely, because it is important to keep such things on "your plate". Maybe let her go one or even two nights, max. She can rekindle her love for it on her own.

of its own accord before there are any actual

hostilities...It is best to win without fighting.

I think first I would let her drop the wednesday and frinday night sessions but still have her go to the regular tuesay/thursday lessons. Compromise a bit. Then when she had a definate activity to occupy class time on tuesday and thursday talk about changing activities then. But to drop out totally just to hang with the girls is not the best choice. (Old girl speaking here.)

post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are.

Yeah, the weapons idea works a lot...nunchakus, bos, sais, etc, because it opens a new door that they have not gone in yet.

Though, if your daugther does not like MA right now, just let her a long vacation. Maybe when in High school or when she gets more mature, she'll dig in karate again.

The thing is, your daughter may give up and then when she is 25 start again, look back and say... "Hey, why did you let me give up? I could have been really good by now!". That's the fantastic thing with hindsight, because if you make her keep going she may get to 25 and say, "I really resent you pushing me in to all these things I didn't want to do!". So unless you have a crystal ball I guess at 11 she's old enough to know her own mind, so maybe start cutting down on her schedule a bit. (It's quite intense for a child), and hopefully she'll start missing the training, and hr dojo buddies and want to step up of her own accord!

Good luck!!
