Drunken Monkey Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 this is what bugs me. i have time and time again explained this situation to you. the simple answer is that they are not the same words/characters. the way they are written using the roman alphabet are not the real words. they are just an attempt to write the sound. therefore, it might be spelt the same when using roman characters, they are not the same words/characters in chinese. is that hard to understand? and this is a common situation? i have to say that you are the first/only person i have ever come acoss that has posed this to me. the bggest problem in this immediate situation is that you are starting with the romanised form. you can't see the orignal word/character, not can you hear it. if you could, you would see that nothing to ask/discuss. again, there is only one way of spelling these things and that is in chinese. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
47MartialMan Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 And I am time and time again going to post one, per a different word, to see other posts on it. the way they are written using the roman alphabet are not the real words. Agreed. they are just an attempt to write the sound. Poorly from what other people with common English. and this is a common situation? i have to say that you are the first/only person i have ever come acoss that has posed this to me. It is posed to me in the past and present form many other people, many times. I just look for other posts on it for future reference.
Drunken Monkey Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Poorly from what other people with common English that's when you explain to them that it is a system. like the one you see in dictionaries (no idea what it's called- the phonetics thing). it is like a language but not really. if you are asked, the simplest way to correct them is to show them the characters. you can then even explain why the characters mean what they do. assuming you know chinese and chinese etymology that is.... anyway. from what you are saying here. does that mean that the next time you do this i can happily ignore it? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
47MartialMan Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Most of the time, no one has the charaecters let alone trying to explain to a "commoner" anyway. from what you are saying here. does that mean that the next time you do this i can happily ignore it? If you want to. Bare in mind, it may not be a mis-interpreataion ofr a misunderstanding from my view. But, as I stated, I look for responses. You have to decide, because of repetitveness, if it is worth your effort. So that means I welcome yours, as well as any others. In fact, some of your responses, I had copied and noted (with you as the source-i.e. Drunken Monkey-Karate Forums.com) for future reference. In fact, last week a "Chinese Word Subject" surfaced when I was taliking to someone else. He had done, exactly what I posted, per example. When I had used a response, in simularity as yours, he shook his head in amazement.
Ba Gua Man Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 I am a student of Ba Gua for over 1 year now(Yin Style) and one of the legends of internal masters was the skill of Ching Gong, or light skill. Does anyone know about the history of this skill, and when it died out, and why?
Hudson Posted October 22, 2004 Posted October 22, 2004 I have much respect for Drunken Monkey and MartialMan until they start fighting like children . But, I think it's been established, Pa-Kua/Bagua are definately "kung-fu". The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
CLFDisciple Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 are we gonna talk about bagua or are we gonna keep jerkin off over the pronunciation or what the word means... i for one am terribly interested in this art and would like to learn something about it. can someone who knows something about speak up. i heard somewhere it was based off of an eight sided figure, sort of like a math equation that was developed by a shaolin monk that cuts off angles can ANYONE WHO REALLY KNOWS SOMETHING VERIFY PLEASE.. it would be very much appreciated "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
turonaga Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 so anyone tried to spar against a pakua practioneer? how did it go? u shud try it sometimes why did we surrender lord?
47MartialMan Posted October 23, 2004 Posted October 23, 2004 There was a man that I had met only a few times that practiced this. He didn't get into the detail of it. Basically, the name, his hierarchy. We, a couple of friends and I, in our teens, were practicing in a park. This man, watched us from a park bench. As time went on, we started to notice this man, sitting closer per park bench. Finally, he came over and had asked what we were doing. He was speaking to us about martial arts. He did a little demo. He had us attack him. Boy, did he sent us in different directions. A few of us got better aquainted with him as far as to know where he resided. It has been some time since I spoke with him, I will check to see if he resides in the same area.

I thing the full name means "Fist of the 8 organigrams" or something. Concentrates on circular footwork... Can't say much more, A friend of mine bought a book on this but I only had the chance to scan quickly through it.
