47MartialMan
For all indications that I have, if your school has the correct training techniques and a "use it on the street" mentality then Kung Fu will work on the street. On another note, I find it interesting how a lot of Kung Fu terms are spelt differently by different people. Our teachers title is spelt "SiFu". Also I have seen numerous spellings of the Tan/Tarn block. I not having a go at your spelling. I have seen people in my own school misspell the title of our head teacher. Sometiime I have seen Sifu spelled as Shifu.
Noob
Yeah, I've seen it as Siafu aswell. Thanks for the spelling tips, though. I like learning from simple misinterpretations and such. Keeps me wise in the long run. Close Quarters Combat Tactics - Hope to see you there!
47MartialMan
Hey, it is not to correct you, just ways that I had seen it spelled.
Noob
True - it's still cool to know different spellings and such. Sometimes there's an "official" spelling as opposed to the hearsay kind of spelling I guess. The more the marrier! Close Quarters Combat Tactics - Hope to see you there! 47MartialMan
How can it be "official" Websters? Heh heh
Noob
lol, that's where I run into problems. I don't regularly mix up spellings to do with martial arts, yet sometimes I do. Maybe it's because there is no "official" text that I've seen on the Internet? If there actually is a site with official spellings on it, proving all others are wrong, then someone post me the link. I think that could save me some trouble in trying to decypher things. Close Quarters Combat Tactics - Hope to see you there!
47MartialMan
Not really, everyone have their "own" interpretation on how to spell it. Bascially you have to do a thorough research on Wade-Giles or Pinyin.
Ricochet
Yeah, the problem basically is that these words weren't originally written with the Roman alphabet, compounded, of course, by the fact that depending on where you go, you get different pronounciations. Drunken Monkey
Yeah, the problem basically is that these words weren't originally written with the Roman alphabet, compounded, of course, by the fact that depending on where you go, you get different pronounciations. finally, someone here who understands. there is a correct way of spelling these things. as the guy says, it is in chinese and does not involve the roman alphabet. everything you see written using the a,b,c are romanisations and are only how the word is pronounced. they are not, technically, how the word is spelt, but how it sounds; hence mulitple ways of spelling and multiple uses of the same 'spelt' sound. ergo; sifu, shifu, siafu and what have you are all correct as far as the sound is concerned, ignorning differences in regional pronounciations. BUT they are not how the word is 'spelt'. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
