Is the crane stance the same one as done in the Karate kid? Just wondering. i've never done it (except for when my friends and I are goofing around) but I want to know more about this

From what I remember (I haven't watched it in years), no.

Besides, a true Okinawan wouldn't be encouraging others to do a kick to the face, anyway.

Actually, yes......the karate kid movie was based on Goju Ryu.....The Crane stance the Danielsan performs, however, is a horrible version of what it looks like.......and as Shorin ryuu said.....a true Okinawan would never kick to the face......

I (believe) that out crane stance is basically a nika washi dache, where you have your feet close together, and your back foot is twisted outwards towards the wall beside you or something. The front foot is this: pointed forewards, but you're standing on the toe area of your foot. ALL of your weight is on your back leg. To step forewards you just have to turn your front foot outwards and bring your back foot in front of you.
