GhostlySykanRyu Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 Taking all of these in their prime? White Warlock-Lee actually took part in the rooftop brawls, and was in plenty of fights in his much younger days. Of course this was before his peak... Jet Li-I'm not that impressed. Flashy dancing and special effects. Not a bad actor though. Chan-not even a martial artist, he said so himself. He learned kung fu techniques for the movies alone. Great stuntman however. Norris-seems pretty skilled, and in his prime Lee still had a thing or two to teach him. Lee-A martial artist first and an actor second. He helped bring the martial arts into the mainstream, and put out some amazing philosophy and technique(if you want to call it that). To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin.
battousai16 Posted October 8, 2004 Posted October 8, 2004 "as a general rule, those who call themselves "artists" usually aren't..." just because jackie chan says he's not a martial artist dosen't necessarily make it so. personally, i think that humility is what takes him above and beyond. but that's just me and my own naive thinking "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai

username9 Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 Well - whatever has been said about this thread - I ahven't answered one on it properly - so my opinion is that Bruce lee was probably the best martial Artist and the Jet Li is most entertaining to watch!
Ottman Posted November 9, 2004 Posted November 9, 2004 (edited) Chuck Norris has evolved significantly over the decades, including having studied bjj under the Gracies. Jet Li has not, Bruce Lee could not, Jackie Chan... i'm sure he has insight into such. Actually, if you watch Bruce Lee's movies. Most of his 'big' fights end in grappling moves, (Against Chuck in 'Return of the Dragon', against Kareem Abdul Jabaar in 'Game of Death' etc.) and Jeet Koon Do, in Bruce's own stated opinion is the art of learning as many styles (in depth) as possible, and bringing out whatever is needed in the given situation. I know it's been said previously, but he used to brawl all the time out on the street, and yes, also on rooftops, in his younger days. Let's not forget that he taught Chuck Norris during his six consecutive Karate chamionships, and also instructed Dan Inosanto. He started Wu Shu and Wing Chung training at a very early age (4 I think) and developed Jeet Koon Do only after identifying all the weaknesses in Kung Fu and other martial arts and used JKD as his method of fixing these weaknesses. Bruce is the reason that MA are as popular as they are today, and he just because of his indominable spirit, he'd still be going strong if he were alive today. And also, because he truly did not fear death and put every ounce of his emotion into his martial arts, I can't think of even a UFC or Pride Fighter who he couldn't at least hold his own against. These other guys are just practitioners, and good ones at that, in fact excellent ones, but Bruce was martial arts. You can't mess with that. One more thing: in all of Bruce's movies, except for fake blood maybe, there were no special effects. No computer imagery or tricks, no wires or gimmicks. Just pure martial arts, and his fight scenes are still the best to watch I don't care what anyone says. ovine king Posted February 11, 2005 Posted February 11, 2005 here's a thought. did bruce lee find weaknesses in chinese martial arts in general, or did he find weaknesses in his own martial arts (skill)? i mean, there were plenty of people at his wing chun school that he wasn't able to beat, even after his JKD. so if chinese martial arts had weaknesses and his JKD sought to remove them weaknesses, why did he still lose to his seniors? just so you know, chuck norris was a black belt winning competitions before bruce lee trained with him. dan inosanto was proficient in many styles way before bruce lee trained with him. bruce lee did not always get into brawls on the street (he spent most of the time running away after not being able to keep his big mouth shut). there is only one story of him in a rooftop fight and he only 'won' by a lucky shot. he did not do wushu. earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers.

kzshin Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Bruce VS. Jet LI. This I want to see. Kinda like New type of kung fu VS. Traditional Kung Fu.
