scottnshelly Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 You might be in a McDojo if: It's founder is Ashida Kim. good one. i've read a book or two by him. not a cool guy
P.A.L Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 how about dojos selling Ashida Kim's books. one more , in Sushi-bar dojos they sell you drinking water for $2. one more, the contract you need to sign has fine print longer than actual contract by itself. other one, you see more than 10 patches on Gis.
username9 Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 You might be a redneck if.....Foxworthy Voice> Sorry - I mean you might be in a McDojo IF: - A single lesson costs more than a 36" Wide Screen TV - The club has a mascot called "Nigel the Ninja" - The Instructor has a white stripe through his black belt as in Go-Kan-Ryu (or No-Can-Do as I like to call it). They are not real black belts. - Your Gi has more than 2 colours on it. - Your Instructor has to get out his "My First Big-Book of Martial Arts" when you ask to learn some bunkai. - Your Instructor has a gold belt on!
username9 Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 oh - and I forgot: You Might be in a McDojo if: - Your Instructor learned from "Grand Master Dave". - Your Instructor continually refers to using "the force".
thaiboxerken Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Your Instructor continually refers to using "the force". What's the difference between that and Ki/Chi? Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
dear john Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 for me, the most common characteristic of a mickey mouse dojo is one that promises a belt rank within a pre-determined amount of time (and money) regardless. I've been to schools (as a visitor) that would promote to any rank up to one under the instructor for a price. also, like thaiboxerken said, if you are offered the 'opportunity' to open a school under that dojo for a fee even though you have little to no experience in the style. yep thats one of my schools all right the funny thing is that i know im wrong and i know your right, yet you keep argueing like it will change my mind. you should really know, you dont have to be right to win:)
thaiboxerken Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 You might be in a McDojo if: They teach TaeBo there. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
47MartialMan Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Your Instructor continually refers to using "the force". What's the difference between that and Ki/Chi? Referenceing Star Wars and the instructor's voice changes to OBI-One.
AngelaG Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 I think people worry far too much as to whether they are in a McDojo or not. If you are enjoying what you are doing, go with it.... only you can decide whether it's right for you or not! Referenceing Star Wars and the instructor's voice changes to OBI-One. Yeah - I meant Star Wars. Plus: You Might be in a McDojo if: - Your Instructor sits you down to watch a training video....and it turns out to be Power Rangers
