You stay on your toes for a knee strike to help you pivot your foot and rotate your hips.

 

If you are doing clinched upward knees, your toes should actually help you lift your knees up, almost like jumping.

Makes sense ..... we do all our kicks the same way, even a front kick if you follow up.

I asked the master about this and he gave me the shock absorber analogy. Besides the extra power, being on your toes allows u greater manuverabilty and the ability to take a push or strike from your opponent without falling on your bum :lol:
