Shorinryu Sensei
The filipinno martial arts do the same, empty hands use the same angles, however, a slap or knucke to the bicept isn't nearly as nasty as a knife cut or stab to the same place. Uhhhh...agreed. However, the objective of fighting against a knife is to deflect, disarm or control the weapon, not punch the guy while he's attacking, yet still holds, or has total control over the weapon. He was one of Guro Inosanto's Kali instructors. Oh...OK...uhhhh...and I'm supposed to know who Guro Inosanto is I guess? I obviously don't travel in the same circles as you do, as those names mean nothing to me. The only Inosanto I know of is Bruce Lee's student. Oh, I don't know if that's always the case. I don't think there really is a hard strict rule, except to survive. The only Inosanto I know of is Bruce Lee's student. Same guy. Drunken Monkey
Guro is the title associated with the filipino arts. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." thaiboxerken
Yes, Dan Inosanto is called by several different titles because he is an instructor of over 50 martial arts. So, you'll see some people call him Sifu, others Guro, Guru, Master...etc. What a guy, his entire life is dedicated to training martial arts and passing on the knowledge. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts. longarm25
Trapping -- Shorinryu (incorporated with tuite) Standup grappling --- Shorinryu (called tuite) Takedowns --- Shorinryu (called tuite and others) Ground grappling --- Shorinryu (probably weakest point though)-also tuite. Stick fighting --- Shorinryu (called kobudo) Knife fighting --- Got me here. We do tons of defenses AGAINST a knife attack, but we do no offensive techniques with a knife. Really, I see no reason to learn how to kill somebody with a knife, since I'm not planning on doing so anytime in the future. thaiboxerken
Only if you train it for a very long time, longarm. It also depends on the system of Karate. username9
Only if you train it for a very long time, longarm. It also depends on the system of Karate. Damn right. "Original Karate" would contain all that you need and was developed as a complete system of fighting. Shame it gets watered down so much. This is why I again recommend Sensei Iain Abernethy. he kicks * and brings Karate back into the realistic world....if you get what I mean?! Fat Donkey
Hey Shorin Ryu Sensei, If u can make it up to Calgary Alberta the Krav School here is starting to have great knife seminars. My friend is an instructor there and he was raving about the guy who taught them, I didn't catch his name but i guess he's an assistant DA from LA and VP of Krav. I guess they have access to dozens of videos of actual stabbings and they analyzed what worked by who lived and who died. Can'y really argue with that. If your interested drop me a line.
