Synaesthesia Posted October 28, 2004 Posted October 28, 2004 y'know, as i've been taught it, though what SS says is true, the knife really isn't a stabbing weapon, it's a cutting weapon. lol, as I've been taught it, that would all depend on the sort of knife it is. You can be sure that a Canadian Paratrooper's dagger is a stabbing weapon. In my martial art, knife combat heavily involves stabbing and slashing in combination. A kukri is a cutting weapon. Although I wouldn't disqualify it's thick profile's stabbing potential, the angle of the tip isn't optimized for the pupose.
battousai16 Posted October 29, 2004 Posted October 29, 2004 well, yeah, that's kinda why i put up that "as i've been taught it" disclaimer "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
47MartialMan Posted October 29, 2004 Posted October 29, 2004 Do you know, it a courtroom with a jury, that if you has stabbed someone with a knife is more disgustingly apalling and horror to people than if you had shot him. A knife seems pre-meditive and puts you in the category of mentally ill. For someone to post such a question, must be a blade enthusiast.

And whatever you do, don't shoot them with a hunting crossbow. Apparently a "humane" way to kill an animal is so heanous that it qualifies for "aggrivated murder" (never thought that would be a real charge) in some states. https://www.clearsilat.com
47MartialMan Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Wow, I didnt know crossbow hunting was legal-except for those wiuth handicaps. And yes, shooting a bolt into someone will definitely create horror.
Ted T. Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 If you use a knife to defend ourself, your life as you know it, will be over. If you kill someone, your life will absolutely end and you will start a completely new one as a new person. This new life will not be better, with more opportunities, but very stifled and dark. Changes in your spirit / soul will outweight the exterior changes of your life. If he does not die, the change will be less drastic but still inevitable. You may not even notice that people you thought were lifetime friends fade and others you have no respect for now seem tolerable. Your values will change and therefore, so will your life. When you kill a man with a knife, you kill two people. Ted TruscottThe Raising Canes Club
47MartialMan Posted October 30, 2004 Posted October 30, 2004 Nicely written. I have to make a note of this.

When you kill a man with a knife, you kill two people. I think I know (and somewhat agree with) the premise of your post, but your conclusions seem a little absurd. Assuming that the threat was seriouse enough to warrant useing a knife to defend yourself, then if you don't kill (or more to the point, risk killing him), then your life is definately over. And killing in self defense is not the same as murdering a man. True, it may change your outlook on life. But I don't think it will change your morals, or lead to the slippery slope you infer where you start consorting with low lifes. Freedom isn't free!
MenteReligieuse Posted November 1, 2004 Posted November 1, 2004 I totally disagree with Ted T. Depends of your own morals. how can you make such a generalisation. Plus what you just said depends on if the person beleives in souls or spirits.

I know quite a few people who have killed (mostly vets) without a "stifled and dark" life. https://www.clearsilat.com
