GhostFighter Posted September 27, 2004 Posted September 27, 2004 This may seem like stupid question but i still tought i'd do it. So I just would just like to know how you can defend urself with a knife or stab someone withouth killing or injuring him for life and yet still be able to disable or weaken him so you can have enough time to run away? Everyday is a fight
Shorinryu Sensei Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 This may seem like stupid question but i still tought i'd do it. So I just would just like to know how you can defend urself with a knife or stab someone withouth killing or injuring him for life and yet still be able to disable or weaken him so you can have enough time to run away? Generally speaking, the vast majority of the human body can be stabbed...not to deeply...and not kill them. However, there are a few places on the human body that if stabbed, will cause certain death if not immediately treated. Also you run into the "LAW". If you are in a fight with someone about the same size as yourself, and unarmed..you can be held liable for any injuries you cause that person. You can also been seen by the law as the "aggressor"..whether you were or not, and could land up in jail for assault with a deadly weapon. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
gcav Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Do not carry a knife for protection. Trust me on this. Train like your life depends on it....Because it does.
battousai16 Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 y'know, as i've been taught it, though what SS says is true, the knife really isn't a stabbing weapon, it's a cutting weapon. you shoot for arteries and veins and the like. that femural arterie in particular. if you pull a knife out, you're not really trying to take them down non-violently. JerryLove Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 There's no simple answer. I would suggest, if you wish to not kill your opponents, that you carry a weapon other than a kinfe... a slapjack comes to mind, though tazers and pepper-spray are good for taking the fight out of most people. https://www.clearsilat.com
thaiboxerken Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Keep it sheathed or folded and you probably won't kill with it. tommarker Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 If you're going to use a knife for self-defense, I highly suggest you are prepared to kill the person. End of story. Knife = Gun on the scale of use of force. Any other expectation is a pipe-dream. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
tommarker Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 and the stab/slash arguement can be traced back hundreds of years and each school is firmly entrenched in their beliefs (i personally subscribe to thrusting) but I think we can safely agree that both will do a good job of killing a person dead when needed. If you want non-lethal methods, I would look to using pepper spray as a distraction, using hands or kubaton or something as a follow-up. Do not expect assailant to fall to ground trying to scratch their eyes out in pain. Spray vigorously, and when hands go up, attack low. person bends over, attack high. drop. stomp. repeat as needed. GhostlySykanRyu Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 I would suggest learning how to use your body effectively... I'm a knife enthusiast...but unless you're in a trench or similar situation, a knife is not a weapon, unless you want to get yourself arrested/beaten by knife enthusiasts for ruining our good name I usually carry 2-5 knives on a normal day. Utility, general purpose, rescue, heavy duty, multi tools. It's a must around the firehouse for me, and anywhere else for that matter (except for school, I only carry one there, illegally: damn the law, if someone's in trouble I have a rescue knife handy). Would I ever use one as a weapon? Hell no. Using a knife as a weapon will get you the full punishment that the law can give you. And if you do draw, be prepared to kill. A knife is just as deadly as a firearm when used in the wrong hands. Did I mention learning how to fight To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin.
