Intellectual Departure... Huh? Never ever ever ever heard of it. How's it go?... Craziness.

It's been a while, but let's see... defense against a right front kick... from a right neutral bow, pivot left into a left close kneel with a right inside downward palm down to the kick, forcing him to drop forward. Right back kick to the solar plex (or abdomen?). Plant back to a right neutral bow and immediately pivot to a right forward bow as you right back knuckle his right temple. May have to insert a foot maneuver to keep position.

Man! I havn't done that one since my brother and me were trying to recreate some of this many years ago. Hope that was close. Any way, gives you a good idea why Mr. Parker dropped it. A lot of those older techniques, as well as some still used, were apparently (I've been told by some who were there) created in response to questions or requests made of Mr. Parker by his students. They were droped if they were redundant, or didn't fit well, or just if they were a little "Craziness". :)

Hey! Are you mocking the craziness?! :)

Thanks for the order thingy. So, as a Junior black belt, am I a Junior Associate Instructor? (haha)(don't you just hate puns?)

If a brown belt is kyu, and a black belt is Dan, and I'm a Junior Black, am I a Dan-kyu?

You're welcome!

I love that. Cracks me up every time.

You mean the technique names? They harken back to the Chinese method of naming moves. The chinese speak allegorically. Needle At Sea Bottom is primarily a groin strike in Taiji, and the Chinese refer to the perineum as the bottom of the sea. AK uses synonyms to represent different things, and the technique names use these synonyms in the technique names to help give a visual reminder of what the technique does. A branch is a leg, and Buckling Branch,... well, you figure out what the technique does.

Uh...just for randomness, here's where a lot of the name roots come from:

Leg- Branch

Hand- Twig

Finger- Leaves

Arms- Wings

Club Attack- Storm

Chop- Sword

Hammerfist- Hammer

Palm-claw- Claw

Hair- Feathers

Knife Attack- Lance

Gun Attack- Rod

Thrusting Palm Heel- Salute

Headlock- Death

Choke- Cross

Ground- Danger

Kick- Destruction

To name some of the more common ones.

well, i know how the chinese naming 'works' as it were.

just curious as to how you guys define your terms.

cool.

makes more sense than the chinese poetic terms

'jealous concubine presents secret gift'....?

WTF?

How about "Monkey steals peaches"?

That's 'Peach' (we'll just let them figure that one out for themselves).

And, how about "Repulse the *^#! Monkey"... :P
