Shorinryu Sensei
"Trust me, nothing can go wrong." seem like famous last words to me. Isn't that what the builder and Captain of the Titanic said? OK..people are human. Human's are fallable. To put a child intentially in a situation that potentially has the risk of severe or permanent injury is just plain stupid! You referring to car accidents is also, I think, rather lame. Granted, if you have a young child and don't buckle them in...again, you're endangering that child needlessly. If you do buckle them in, or use a proper child safety seat..you are being a responsible adult and making the best effort to protect your child from potential harm. Having your child stand there as a target so that you can make people think you are a big hotshot is pure *, and I wouldn't hesitate to tell that man that if I saw it in person. I would not have the same issues if he was using an adult for the same demonstration, as adults can make their own decisions regarding their safety, and accept responsability for their own actions. DLopez
No, it only appears lame to use auto comparisons because you probably do it all the time and don't give a second thought about how dangerous it actually is. You have become conditioned to think that driving in a car is "the norm", therefore it is an acceptable risk because of the inconvenience factor. I know it sounds silly to suggest not driving your kids in cars, but when you really stop and think about it, there are so many factors that are out of your control that makes automobile travel unsafe, it makes you head spin. Ignorance is bliss, I guess. At least someone else that posted here had enough guts to admit that if he railed against this guy for doing what he did, he would feel hypocritical for things that he does himself without thinking. I wish there were more like him - you know, cast the first stone and all that. Oh well, no one seems to be able to get my point, so what's the use. As the one who said he might be hypocritical, I would like to respond. My goal is not to "rail" against this guy. I only think he used improper judgment when it came to this child. As for the Auto comparison, let's compare apples to apples. I am not saying he shouldn't perform this demonstration, anymore than I would suggest that someone not drive their vehicle. But there is common sense that should come into play in both cases. Common sense tells us; buckle the kids up to lesson the chance that would be hurt in an accident. Common sense should also tell us; if we want to swing a weapon at someone's head, make it an adult. Student: "Why did you hit that guy with a chair? Why didn't you use your karate?"Master: "Hitting him with a chair was the only karate I could think of at the time."Lesson: Practice until you don't have to think. Red J
Too bad that common sense is not common practice. If I only had a nickel for every time I said that one... I wonder if everyone who drove a car suddenly were given nunchakus if the accident rate while driving a car and swinging nunchakus would make either activity inherently more dangerous...and you think that talking on a cell phone was bad...could you imagine? Sorry. I just couldn't help myself. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
battousai16
y'know, in my experience, people who obtain a pair of nunchaku and try to train them on there own always end up smacking themselves in the head a bit to many times and end up getting discouraged. if anything, i'd say that would be a good idea to weed out the dumb people "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
47MartialMan
I guess the main emphasis is that the subject should have been another adult instead of a child.
