Shane
Belt Ranks in Kickboxing????? Should there be belt ranks in kickboxing programs? Ranking systems are great for many reasons one of them is it allows the student to set short term goals inorder to achieve an overall goal. And it also acts as a motivator for the students. Since alot of Martial Arts have adopted the belt ranking system do you think that Kickboxing should also? I have seen a few schools out there that promote students from white - black for a kickboxing program. What do YOU think?????????????????? kbgirl
I practice kickboxing and we have a belt structure. We also practice many karate techniques & katas that we must learn at each belt level in order to progress. I think it helps people to keep focused on short term and long term goals. I consider the way I train to be very much a martial art. Rank: Low-Black

SevenStar
many associtations have levels - level 1, level 2, level 3, assistant coach, etc. it is for structure within that organization and to denote who has what qualifications. you won't wear a belt or anything, however some schools I hear do use the color of the trunks, but these "ranks" have no significance outside of the organization you got them in. Some schools - I'm, thinking more american kickboxing type - institute a belt rank progression, similar to karate.
kbgirl
It's Sport Kickboxing. I would give the website but as a marketing professional, I can't possibly give the link to such as site - it's really bad and outdated and I'm not proud of it. Sorry. I will say, though, that despite the fact that my training is of a very particular nature - our 'style' has only two schools started by brothers who run one each, I feel like I have enough skill to move to another hard-style karate and not be entirely green about it. kbgirl
Sorry, um... yes. American - as you say freestyle karate influenced. Generally international rules apply. Rank: Low-Black
SevenStar
I do know of at least one muay thai club that uses a color system, and that's champion thai boxer manu ntoh.
Jerry
Yup, I also practice the freestyle kickboxing ands we also have belt gradings. The higher the ranks the fitter they expect you to be and you must be able to do certain jumping kick, spinning kicks and must perform well in the ring. It also helps for the new guys to respect your more advanced or experienced fighters. They don't just come in and expect to be the club champ, they know that it is something to work for.
