Drunken Monkey Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 ... well, saying that you wouldn't let him grab you in the first place is nice and all, but I'd still train for it fair point but i guess i say this cos that is the mentality of my training. specifically the part about 'catch-up'. everything in wing chun is about intercepting and interrupting. if something is entering our space/centre/guard then it will be intercepted. if the person has grabbed on AND has fixed/secured his grip then in my style, you are considered to be two steps behind already. in that situation, you wouldn't want to do two things to catch-up. you either equalise or overtake. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."

I need 2 know if there is anyway or anything I can do so I can be more aware of my surroundings and concentrate better in fight's. PLEASE!!!! If anyone know's anything I would greatly appreciate it. Wickedwayz Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 wear ear muffs when sparring , then blindfolds , or fight enough till you start to "feel " it just like when you start something new its awkward and then you finally get it down and can do it after a while you can do it without thinking about it . ~Never retreat, Always advance to the rear.

Master Jules Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 Feel....dont think.....exactly.....when teaching a student, I will often have them close their eyes while in a stance for example. I tell them to listen to their bodies, and instead of looking down at their feet to "see" the stance.....close your eyes and "feel" the stance....besides....getting into the habit of having to "look" at you feet while going into a stance is a good way to get knocked out in a fight....lol....the only way to acheive anything that requires "muscle memory" is through countless repetitions with proper form....training your mind to "feel" whats right is a much better way of learning than having to look while doing....when I work stances with my students, I basically tell them to start from ready stance, step into whatever stance were working on, pause and "feel" it....then look and check....if youre "off"...fix it, "feel it", then continue in the same manner. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
