ddpc Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I'm looking into taking up drunken boxing, and im wondering if it truly is a joke in reality. i've seen a few drunken fighters and it seems promising. im basically just looking for a new style.. Did Muay Thai for a while and that was nice... just something that intrigues me about drunken boxing. But its definately a challenge to find a teacher for it, ive looked for a while and cant seem to find one, who isnt some american just making things up *no offense to americans... im am one* bah well im in Arizona, if anyone has any info let me know. Master Jules Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Drink heavily....LOL.....seriously though......very effective art, if trained properly (like anything else).... ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Drunken Monkey Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 but seriously relies on you having exceptional base skills. it's not something you learn from the word go. unless of course you want to do wushu. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
battousai16 Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 i seem to recall seeing a choy li fut school in arizona having a website that was talking about their drunken boxing skills. you have to learn choy li fut for awhile of course, but if that's what you're looking for... wish i still had the address for you, sorry. KungFuMan Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 ddpc, Drunken boxing is shall we say an "unorthodox" style of kung fu. Here, the exponent of this art will stumble and will seem in constant imbalance while attacking and defending himself. If you ever face a real "drunken master" you will be in for a really difficult time because of the unpredictable nature of the Drunken exponents. By the way, there are varous styles of drunken boxing, including drunken fist, drunken immortal and drunken monkey. As in most kung fu styles you will need to commit time and dedication to get anywhere in this art. You will not find progress as fast as in Muay Thai. As for schools in Arizona, unfortunately I can´t help you there because I am very far away from that location. Good luck in your search. KFM Only time and commitment will make your Traditional "style" good and give you real knowledge. "Marry" your chosen system as opposed to just flirting with it. Make it your partner for life and you will see how well and how complete it really is.
Sasori_Te Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 ddpc where are you in Arizona? If you are close to Phoenix you might want to try the Asian Cultural Center downtown. You might also try asking the folks down at Karate Mart on 19th Ave and Indian School Rd. They know all of the local instructors in the area and can give you background on a lot of them. I found a couple of good garage teachers this way. A block is a strike is a lock is a throw.
ddpc Posted September 22, 2004 Author Posted September 22, 2004 im in peoria, a suburb of phoenix... thanks for the help so far. "It is only after you have lost everything, that you are free to do anything."
JerryLove Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 I agree with Drunken Monkey here... every decent Drunken person I am aware of has it as a form or Jing on top of other arts. I've not seen anyone teach a cirriculum of it, nor have I seen a form of it which did not require a great deal in the way of base skills and body qualities. https://www.clearsilat.com
47MartialMan Posted September 23, 2004 Posted September 23, 2004 Any drunken practitioner may get nasty when sobered.
