It's usually easier to just grapple with the untrained person, because strike-sparring doesn't really do much. You punch them in the face lightly and they don't understand how you could've really hurt them.

Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me

i was sparring wiht my friend last night, he has no training so he basically just goes all out. It was kind of hard becauxe i would just cover up and take the hits than go off on him wiht a couple of shots which would get him obviously but i didnt want to just trhow punches while he was throwing punches. Its weird, i thinki would have more trouble fighting an untrained person than a traINED ONE, because a trained person will just exchange punches and we know both take it wasy but an untrained person jst goes off at you. Somethigh to think about.

In defense, does it matter of trained or untrained

Never just "take hits “from an untrained fighter. If they build confidence, they will think they own you in the ring. Always score the first point in point fighting. If you hit the person, truly hit them on the first point, they will not go in on you. We have uncontrolled fighters at our school. They are very nice people, just have no control. A lot of times guys think they need to show dominance, so they hit very hard, or have wild techniques. If you fight with these people, it will not make you a better fighter. I only fight people with good skill; it makes you a champion.

Umm... i fight anyone who attempts to hurt me or someone i love.

On a side, i often examine actions and techniques with 'untrained' fighters. The reason being, they aren't programmed into thinking something will or won't work, and thus approach it from a different perspective. Sometimes, this can be very enlightening... so don't dismiss an untrained fighter merely because he/she doesn't study the martial arts. Everyone you meet in life... can teach you something.

Yeah, please give some examples

Hmm... example, eh?

Okay, i attempted to demonstrate chi sao to my brother, the physicist. He grabbed my shirt and head-butted me. --- this action cleared up a misnomer to my wing chun training.

Another? while defending with a bo, I performed a lifting parry against the attacking bo that my friend, a brawler, was striking with. Before i complete my action to counterstrike, he drops the bo straight back down and smacks me in the nose. --- this action cleared up one of the misnomers to my training, which is that commonly taught defensive actions that leave an opposition's weapon stranded above chest level, provide quick recovery opportunity for the opposition.

Others? How so very often us males forget about the threat of nails and teeth, and thus fail to properly maintain a defense against such.

Blah blah blah

Yeah, I just wanted to see some examples. I have such of my own as well. I wanted to see if we were on the "same page". Therefore, I agree.

Yeah, but what about good ole personal preference  Some guy's r aggressors some defenders, attackers or counter attackers. I agree with the pale spellcaster when he say's fight them all because experience against different typee and styles of fighters is simply the only way to go. As far as iishinryugurl say's I think she'd talking about jerks who r too undisciplined or simply bullies. These guys u should hurt. :x It is usually the only lesson they can retain and besides it's fun :brow:

Bullies are good topic for us to discuss. Anyone want to start a new thread about them?
