When you have someone in the guard, a short strike elbow to the nose or jaw is much more effective then a punch where you need to bring your hand all the way up. As for elbows in the standing, I would not reley on them.

Good point

Standing elbows do work, you just have to be smart about it. Many people train them, but have no clue as to how to use them in a real situation.

Nope. However, the guys with the last name "Fairtex" have. A group armed with knives tried to mug Bunkerd and his brothers, they had to explain to the police that they didn't have knives themselves and that the cuts on the muggers faces were from their elbows.

You bet they work, I look at the elbow as being our second largest knuckle if you know what I mean and they are great tools at close range and on the ground.

Hey 47,

for short people, don't forget the point of the elbow into the inside of the thigh or just above the knee!! :) and if he leans in on you, take his fist or the inside of his bicep if you can't reach his golden triangle.

Beginners often miss the elbow, not being used to the range, just like beginning kickers, kick upwards so if they miss, they land on their back.
