youremean Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 How effective are elbows (such as those in MT) in street fights? Especially the spinning back elbow, would it work in real life? G Money Slick Posted September 18, 2004 Posted September 18, 2004 Elbows are more effective in close , "up in your face" fights usually to counter grappling. Punches are ranged attacks that are more effective from a distance, as are kicks. As for the spinning elbow, I wouldn't recommend attempting it if you feel your not confident in executing it with perfect timing. Hell, I've never used it in a fight and probably never will. Never attempt something in a street fight you know your not capable of doing or you'll get beat to the ground quickly. If your enemy refuses to be humbled......you must destroy him.
Little Dragon Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 Elbows are very sharp when hit directly on the tip of it.It is also a very strong bone which most likely wont break when attacking with it. ''I know what your thinking.........did I shoot you 3 times? or did I shoot you 472 times?''
delta1 Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 Simple answer- YES! More complex answer- DANG TOOTIN! My opinion- they are extremely effective and easy to learn, including the spining version. They also work as a block, a check, or a clearing block. They can be used in ANY direction, and reversing their motion gives you two strikes for the time and trouble of one. Freedom isn't free!
Beiner Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 Think of it this way, the less surface area, the more direct the energy. You have all of th same forces as a punch but on the tiny surface are of the elbow. If your close enough to drop one do it

Vito Posted September 19, 2004 Posted September 19, 2004 i wouldnt recommend spinning in a fight at all. but 'forarms' and 'elbows' (meaning a horizontal shot, and a vertical- bringing it down shot) are incredibly effective and devistating. also, make sure you know how to use them, because if you miss or mess up you leave yourself open for a lot. KungFuMan Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 Elbows are effective fighting tools in the close range but of course practice, practice and more practice before you use it in a real situation, remembering tht if you are in your opponents face and close, then so is he and may make you pay if you miss. Make it your partner for life and you will see how well and how complete it really is.
47MartialMan Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 I guess it will be hard to do a effective elbow from someone 5'-1 on someone 6'-4?
