Rick Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 The devil was a tree? I shouldn't be this confused on my 100th post... Ahh well... Yeah, bagwork is probably a little better than shadow boxing - but still at least u can work ur technique without actually hitting something so u can see a bit better... 47MartialMan Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 But how beneficial is shadow boxing, where as doing pushups or etc., will probably be most time used?
Rick Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 It's beneficial in that u can work on ur technique and combinations and movements etc while not having to worry about hitting a bag or an opponent while at the same time moving rapidly enough to builf up cardiovascular endurance. 47MartialMan Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 I guess that is the key: Cardiovascular endurance. But htere are other drills that can be done for this. Some that I have will alsi buld power and strength. Again, this "shadow-boxing" time could be spent on another workout.
Rick Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 I suppose everyone else has their own ideas - but i can't think of anything better than warming up and cooling down with a bit of shadow boxing and stretching. Rick Posted September 15, 2004 Author Posted September 15, 2004 I suppose... But i find it works better for me than certain things. Rick RJT: 2nd Degree Black Belt Freestyle Kickboxer - 3rd Gup HapKiDoist - 6th Kyu Zen Go Shu KarateKaJust Kick Them, They'll Understand...-TBK
SevenStar Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 But how beneficial is shadow boxing, where as doing pushups or etc., will probably be most time used? 1. you can do it solo. 2. you can work footwork and head movement. Alot of people I've seen - particularly newbies - tend to sit in front of a heavy bag and just hit it - they forget about their feet. While shadowboxing, they tend to move around. 3. it's an awesome warm up 4. you can do it in front of a mirror and keep your technique in check.
SevenStar Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Also, it requires no equipment - not everyone has access to a bag.
