47MartialMan Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 A book or video want increased reflexive skills as a instructor would.
Shane Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I believe for the individual who is currently training or has a good amount of training in the combative arts can learn alot from outside training. I would never suggest anyone with no experience to try to learn from a video or a book. But those who already have been instructed from the basic to intermidiate level I think can learn a great deal. MORE WEAPONS TO ADD TO YOUR BASKET OF TRICKS!!!!! A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!
Rick Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Also there is a difference between LEARNING on ur own and PRACTISING on ur own... I don't know if anyone else has mentioned this, i just thought i would put it down before my poor brain forgot about it. I'm not learning anything on my own really, well maybe a little, but i am practising everything that i know... I thought that i was learning, but just came to the realisation that everything i'm doing i already knew... 47MartialMan Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 So oyu are practicing what you have learned. So from a book or video you are not learning something new?
Master Jules Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 I have to disagree with you Rick......sort of......while you cant learn something NEW on your own......by practicing what you already know, you may come to a new and "deeper" understanding of what you already know. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"

Maybe this is what he was trying to convey and we had mis-interpreted it.
