Sho-ju Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 Start with light strikes, always take it easy when you start.
SevenStar Posted September 13, 2004 Posted September 13, 2004 yeah, bag conditioning is fine. IMO, that's all you really need for conditioning your striking surfaces.
Samurai Shotokan Posted September 13, 2004 Author Posted September 13, 2004 Hey thanx guys I was afraid it was Dangerous thats all for some reason I never feel like I can hurt someone if I need to defend my self Why is that?? 28 movies, 50 years Godzilla is King of the Monsters"nothing like a good workout" Paul Pheonix
47MartialMan Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Dangerous only if you play a musical instrument or have other talents, i.e. painting/drawing.
Kane Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Just make sure you don't hurt the soft tissue in your knuckles. If your knuckles bruise of swell, ice them and hold off bag training for a while. Belive me.. you do not want to damage your ligaments!!
47MartialMan Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Keep an eye on severe contusions and abrasions. Keep open wounds clean and protected.
CloudDragon Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Use a light wrap or thin gloves to prevent abrading and you will be able to tolerate longer sessions. A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
Killer Miller Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Gloves are best for learning how to hit the bag. But bare knuckle is good if you are hitting the bag correctly. If you hit the bag correctly, there will be no abrasions to your knuckles. Hit it incorrectly, it will rip up your knuckles in no time flat... - Killer - Mizu No KokoroShodan - Nishiyama SenseiTable Tennis: http://www.jmblades.com/Auto Weblog: http://appliedauto.mypunbb.com/Auto Forum: http://appauto.wordpress.com/
Knockdown Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 the surface of the bag will make some differences. Canvas can be pretty unforgiving of errors. Vinyl can be really slippery. Leather is the best. an 80 lb bag is a good one for starters, especially if you are going bare knuckle. You have gotten some good advice, and could alternate between bare knuckle to work on technique and GRADUALLY increase your Power. Then alternate with a nice pair of Bag gloves so you can do full out as well. Remember - the key to any conditioning is moderation. it takes years to condition the body parts. External callouses are not the primary goal; internal strengthening is more important and takes a longer time. good luck and have fun!
