zerohour Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 Is Arnis the name of the martial art that uses a stick as a weapon, or is Arnis the name of the weapon? What is Escrima/eskrima and kali? I'm a bit confused on this subject, but it's a weapon/art? that I would like to learn more about.
yamesu Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 Arnis is the name of the style of MA, its like saying Karate, the arts of Kali and Escrima are very similar to Arnis in the fact that the basis of the art at a basic level is built around the use of a fighting cane, (or sword if your a nutter,) insted of empty handed combat, hand-to-hand is a major part of Arnis training but is not used as a basis to teach the art. zerohour Posted September 12, 2004 Author Posted September 12, 2004 Ok thanks - so what's the proper, or mostly used word for the weapon? Cane, stick, ....??
ZR440 Posted September 14, 2004 Posted September 14, 2004 Arnis and Escrima are names referring to the region or period where they were developed years ago. Now the terms are used interchangeably. While they seem to emphasize mostly on weapons, in reality they practice open hand techniques just as much. They are all sticks, but sometimes the shorter ones are referred to as canes. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
