RaidenTB Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 I agree with Ronnryu; he wrote:Wow its hard to name a favorite kata I love them all in different ways . So if I have to point out just one, well - I have a love/hate relationship with Seienchin. It's such a strong kata. I love the breathing, the rythm, the movements. But it's quite physically demanding. It's sort of challenging me, saying: Can you do me? Can you make it to the end and keep all the movements strong? Imagination is more important than knowledge.
manuelito Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 mine would probably be kanku-dai or chinte in the shotokan system. and for tkd (itf) yoo-sin and ge-baek are my favorites. pain is weakness leaving the body.fear is the mind killer, i will face my fear and let it pass threw me. from the movie "dune"i know kung fu...show me. from the movie "the matrix"
Master Jules Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 "Feels right".....I know what you mean.....I seem to just "flow" in Seisan. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
P.A.L Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 in shuri-te I love Naihanchi shodan , in Tommari-te I like passai, in Naha-te I like Anan
shotochem Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 I'm finding that my taste in kata is changing over time. What I used to despise I now enjoy. I like different katas more at different times depending on my mood. Today I'm feeling kinda Tekki with a little Empi on the side.... Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
aefibird Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 I find that my 'favourite' kata depends on my mood (as Shotochem has already said). I like all the kata I do, it's difficult for me to choose just one favourite. However, current 'flavour of the month' for me are Meikyo (Rohai), Kanku Sho, Nijushiho and Sochin. Out of the Heian kata series my fave is Heian Yondan. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!
Sho-ju Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Gankaku Wanshu Ananku Tekki It changes daily as I study.

Master Jules Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Hey 9....btw....what Okinawan style do you study ? ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
ninelivesarentenough Posted September 11, 2004 Author Posted September 11, 2004 eh, a lot of other practitioners frown on this but we're MOSTLY based on Shotokan, however, my school has made self-defense a larger part of the curriculum so other styles have been thrown in. also we have a black belt club where we're exposed to more karate kata as well as other martial arts such as capoeira and wushu. sorry if you were looking for a one word answer :')
