ninelivesarentenough Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 pretty self explanatory, tell us your favorite open hand kata, maybe tell us why you like it. if it's a kata specific to your school or mayb an invention of your own, tell us about it. ummm... that's all for now. mine's gekisai if anyone was wondering. oh yea and i didn't make this a poll because i couldn't fit enough options, it wouldn't let me.
Master Jules Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Do you mean "empty hand" kata ? I ask because all 3 Gekisai kata have both an open and closed hand within them. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
ninelivesarentenough Posted September 10, 2004 Author Posted September 10, 2004 i always heard open hand used as meaning no weapon, but, if that'd make it clearer, empty hand.
Shorinryu Sensei Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Pinan Yondan (4) It's not my most advanced kata by any means, but something about that kata always feels "right" to me. Just the way it moves, and the bunkai associated with those movements. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
G95champ Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Im asked this question a lot and I always seem to have differant answers lol. I don't know that I have one favorite kata. I got some I like at differant times. Hangetsu, Sochin, and Tekki Sandan are prob my fav. 3 but I like Many kata. I would hate to pick just one. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Ronnryu Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Wow its hard to name a favorite kata I love them all in different ways . If I had to name one I guess it wold have to be Shisochin. It is a kata I find myself doing everytime I workout. Ron DavisSandan (Motobu ha Shito ryu)
gcav Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 There are several that I realy like, but one of my favorites would be Pyung-Ahn Odan. Its the 8th form that I learned for TSD/MDK. This form starts the transition from basic stances, movements and techniques to the more advance techniques. Train like your life depends on it....Because it does.
Master Jules Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 I love Seisan kata....it is a "fire" kata, and reflects my "way" very well.....I also am very fond of Sepai. But......I practice them all (obviously), and they do all have different "personalities". ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
AngelaG Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Currently Bassai Dai. I have been working on Tekki Shodan for a while and I quite dislike that kata, so playing and tweaking other kata is a nice release. Bassai Dai is so big and powerful, while still remaining whippy and flowing. The juxtapostion of slow and fast is great too. I also like Kanku Dai and Heian Yondan for similar reasons! Rig Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 I also like Pinan Yondan, it's one of those kata that just feels right - along with Pinan Shodan. My second favorite is Bassai Dai. -- Righttps://www.AtherstoneKarate.co.uk
