Mu Ryuk Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Hey all, We just got a Wing Chun Dummy for the Dojang, my Instructor knows a good amount of Wing Chun, though he hasn't had formal training...just videos...and teaches us a small amount. I am one of the only people to have remembered the first sequence of the Wing Chun Dummy Form he has gone over with us. I was trying it out on the Dummy and...guess what...IT'S FUN!!! So, eventually I'm sure Mr.Durney will teach me more of the form, but are there any other drills anyone can suggest? One of my favorite aspects is that the Dummy is good for conditioning, so things that apply directly to that are great, but anything else is excellent as well. Thanks in advance. Tang Soo! gcav Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Name calling will only bring you trouble. Seriously tho, I do not practice Wing Chun, but I have worked out with wooden dummies. They are great for body conditioning. Train like your life depends on it....Because it does.

They are great for body conditioning. dummies are good practices for wing chun i done it 2 years now, to be forgotten is a fate worse than death

Yes, I know, however before I begin to "wing it" and just figure things out on my own, I would like to familiarize myself with the dummy and learn some basic drills that would help me do so. Not to say that your teacher is no good, it just sounds like he should not be teching somthing for which he has had no formal training. cross Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Concidering you dont actually learn wing chun, try applying some techniques on the dummy from the art you actually study (by the looks its Tang Soo Do).

An instructor who has learnt wooden dummy techniques from a video teaching it in a Tang Soo Do class. I can see at least a dozen dead kung fu grandmasters turning in their graves. As Cross pointed out, you are better off practicing Tang Soo Do techniques on the dummy. Wing Chun Kuen Man Real traditional martial arts training is difficult to find.....most dojos in the west are Mcdojos....some are better and some are worst....but they are what they are....do you train in one?
