thaiboxerken Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 47MartialMan, are you still a magician? I recently started a new job and the other guy that my company hired is a magician. It's amazing how simple the tricks are, and easy to spot if you know what to look for. I pretty much know I won't be able to convince the believers that Ki/Chi isn't real. However, I'm wondering if any of them have the guts to try and take the Randi challenge. I guess some people like to talk about their beliefs but don't have the guts to have their beliefs challenged. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
47MartialMan Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 No, I am much too old to have multiple routines such as martial arts and magic performances. Plus, my spouse and 6 year old demand much atttention. So I had to limited my activities. Magic performing takes a lot of time and practice. Then you get gigs, that take a lot of time away on the weekends. Which I reserve the weeeknds for them. I had checked out the link you gave of the Amazing Randi. Very interesting site. I will contact some of the "old" guild (magicians) members and point it out to them. Further, some tricks are not simple. It takes a lot of mental and physical preparation, despite what "props" are used. Props only aid, in some "tricks", a small portion of the performance. Magic tricks/performing, is just as "demanding of practice" as martial arts.
JerryLove Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 I pretty much know I won't be able to convince the believers that Ki/Chi isn't real. Kinda presumptious of a goal, is that not? Unless you don't care wheathe rit is real and are simply interested in testing your powers of persuasian? Can I convince you that Bulgeria isn't real? https://www.clearsilat.com
thaiboxerken Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 It's hard to convince believers to think critically. Ki/Chi practitioners don't care if it's real or not, it's obvious because they refuse to place their claims upon the table of scientific scrutiny. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
JerryLove Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 I like to consider myself a very critical thinker, and I've been called "overly skeptical" by more than one person. It took a lot to get me to change my position on chi [a story I've already retold numberous times], and I remain immensely skeptical of most claims and most people. You study under Inosanto? Ask him if he remembers Richad Clear (I've got a few pics of them together)... that's who I've learned most all of my qigong from. https://www.clearsilat.com
thaiboxerken Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 They practice Qi Gong where I train as well. Yet, I still have seen no evidence to support the claims about Qi. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
47MartialMan Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Hexk, I have pics with me, Bill Superfoot and Chuck Norris. What does that prove?
JerryLove Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 It does not prove anything... it was mentioned to set why I would suggest that they would be familiar with one another. Since he has (presumably) direct access to Inosanto, it would be a simple matter to ask Inosanto's opinion of Clear and his material. https://www.clearsilat.com
thaiboxerken Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 I really don't have access to talk to Guro Inosanto, his home-base is in Torrence, California. He was just here in Portland last weekend, though. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
