WapCaplet
Power can be generated in a multitude of ways. I think hydro-electric is probably one of the best though. Clean, efficient, generating stations make for good tourist traps... What are you all looking at me like that? Wap "Fighting fighting. Same Same""But you know karate!""Someone always know more..." SevenStar
I was specifically refering to Goju. Obviously, there are other styles that use differing technique. Power from the ground up is actually at a BASIC level. when you arent properly grounded, you must learn to generate power in different ways, even without a hip turn.....It is difficult for me to explain this concept with words, but Id love to show you. I completely agree with you. I've seen the coiling used in taiji and southern mantis as well as other methods. The term "from the ground up" is a pet peeve of mine. Drunken Monkey
well, when you see that term used in the chinese styles, it is actually talking about body structure, not stance. which brings up a little question. what is more important: body structure or stance? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." SevenStar
yeah - the line from the foot up that you will see in a structurally correct stance, or "powerline" as I think I read someone on these forums calling it. As for stance and structure, the two are interdependent.
Drunken Monkey
um, not sure i get you properly. by 'structure' i mean complete body structure, not just about the lower half. the phrase is 'from the ground up' but it is actually talking about your body. it doesn't actually have much to do with power coming from the ground. are we talking about the same thing? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." SevenStar
Complete body structure is dependent on stance. Like I said, they are interdependent. I'm not talking about power coming from the ground. I'm talking structure. For example, when you are in a forward stance, there is a line from foot to head. when striking, there should be an imaginary even one from fist to foot. (striking from forward stance)
Master Jules
"from the ground up" is basic physics...its a leverage thing. If not properly grounded, power generation comes from other techniques. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
47MartialMan
How does any of this apply to someone with a "leg" handicap?
SevenStar
"from the ground up" is basic physics...its a leverage thing. If not properly grounded, power generation comes from other techniques. That's my point - power doesn't come from the ground, which is what some people actually think. You are able to generate power because of the connection to the ground. nothing more. The only role the ground plays in power generation is the fact that you are touching it. SevenStar
How does any of this apply to someone with a "leg" handicap? even if you have no legs, you are sitting on something... the plat form you are sitting on would be what your legless torso would use to generate power.
