SevenStar Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 it has a hybrid name. shaolin = chinese do = non chinese.
Master Jules Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Just looking for clarification on your opinion of Chi-I-Do and its headmaster....it sounded like you were putting him in that "lowly" class.......I do agree with your statements about "those guys" though ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
47MartialMan Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 it has a hybrid name. shaolin = chinese do = non chinese. Again, is "do" non-Chinese? (Playing devils-advocate) Jeet Kune Do...where did the "do" come from? Please IM/PM me on them (shaolin do), there is one nearby.
Master Jules Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Interesting how Bruce Lee titled his book "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do" ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
47MartialMan Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Yeah, very........ I thought tao (dao) also meant way/path?
Drunken Monkey Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 'jeet kune do' is bruce's romanisation of cantonese. the 'do' is the cantonese of 'dao' or 'tao' (which is the mandarin) meaning 'way'. the book "the tao of jeet kune do" might be better understood as "the tao of jeet kune do" meaning the 'way of the way of the intercepting fist' shaolin-do doesn't work grammatically because even if it the chinese 'do', shaolin (buddhist) and the 'do' (as in 'tao') do not mix. it equates to having a catholic-jew. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Master Jules Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Jesus was Jewish.....lol.....and a pretty good carpenter from what I hear....lol ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
47MartialMan Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Very well put DM I like the last analogy. A Jewish Dilemma: A FREE ham sandwich.
Drunken Monkey Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 well, you get my point as to why shaolin-do doesn't 'work' and jeet kune do does. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Master Jules Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 DM.....thank you for the interpretation....having the ability to read and speak chinese must really help your study....I wish I could. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
