SevenStar Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 I question any style with japanese and chinese characters in the name...
WC-Strayder Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 SevenStar wrote:" I question any style with japanese and chinese characters in the name...." And I ask: Why is that? Nothing wrong if you do that, but why do you do that? The question was: "Does anyone know what Chi-I-Do is?" All I know is that Chi is internal strenght (Spelled KI on japanese, CHI or QI on chinese), so I would quess that is a internal style with chinese orgin. If the first lesson was a failure, then you know that skydiving isn't for you!
SevenStar Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 I do that because it tells me right off the bat that there is something....different. A chinese style will not have a japanese name. On the same token, a japanese style won't have a chinese name. When the two are mixed, it's generally a style someone made up and named on their own. For example, shaolin-do. And we know the reputation those guys have...
battousai16 Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 i think he's trying to tell us something... "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
Master Jules Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Chi-I-Do is an Organization founded by Master Kow Loon (Kayo) Ong, one of the foremost Masters of Goju Ryu in the world.....He was a student of Toguchi, amongst others, and was head of the Shoreikan under Toguchi in 1973......I noticed that sevsn star mentioned something about "reputations".......this isnt a "created style"......this is Goju Ryu in its MOST traditional and orthodox form........secondly......Goju Ryu is OKINAWAN, not Japanese.......many of the Japanese masters didnt "get" many of the subtle nuances of the system, because they DIDNT have a Chinese backround, and could speak the language.......Goju Ryu descends from Naha-Te, under Kanryo Higashionna, and further back, his teacher from Fukien province in China was Ru Ru Ko, of the White Crane system.........again.....the Okinawans have a much closer tie to the Chinese then the Japanese do......the Satsuma clan invaded and occupied Okinawa from the mid 1600's, and changed the meaning of the original "kara-te" characters.....it originally meant "China hand".....not "empty hand".......in any case......Master Ong is by far one of the most highly sought after Masters of Goju in the entire world.....not only for his phenomenal depth of knowledge, but in his literally amazing ability to actually "do".......If you look at the Chi-I-Do patch (on the gi).....It says....."The fine art of Goju Ryu"......The Hammer......is a long time student of Kayo, and he will (if youre out there Hammer).....back me up on this.....I have also trained ubder them for a short time several years ago.......Kayo and his organization is the furthest thing from "one of those guys" as seven star said. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
JKDkid2 Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 True my friend is learning the style under Kayo in his Highschool in manhattan.
