GhostlySykanRyu
Just be careful, there are plenty of people out there that will take their set style and slap on the JKD name and emblem for effect, which was most definitely not Lee's intent... BEsides, you don't really need an instructor for JKD...JKD is within yourself. To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin. Drunken Monkey
you don't really need an instructor for JKD so um, who do you get to show you how to do the moves properly in the first place? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." GhostlySykanRyu
There are plenty who know the basic movements of JKD as Lee laid them out, but the way is much more than that. In reality, there is only one person on the face of this earth with the actual consent to instruct in official Jeet Kune Do...and a teacher is not always needed to learn...where do you think the first martial art came from? It was theory. A theory that spread and became law so to speak. JKD goes against that law. When being asked to teach a person Jeet Kune Do, Lee would reply: "I don't believe in system, nor in method. And without system, without method, what's to teach?" Lee intended Jeet Kune Do to be a base and way of learning the martial arts that would be practical and require only hard work...hopefully I've cleared things up a bit... To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin.

GhostlySykanRyu
The first to think of Gung Fu apparently had found a way! I'm not saying that a sensei does not help, I'm saying one is not entirely necessary to achieve goals. There are always alternative ways of training that are effective, even if some do not care to admit it. To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin. Rick
Martial arts were bred from battle, battle was a consequence of life in early humanity, over many battles certain techniques were discovered. It is also reputed that some kungfu masters watched the ways in which animals fought and imitated their moves/tactics (thus the monkey, snake and praying mantis styles for example). A man did not simply create them one day. Not everyone has the natural ability within them to learn to fight. Lee would teach people how HE did a side kick, "this is how i do it" and "this is another way of doing it" - "now that u have the basic idea u can make up your own mind how u would like to personalise it" - he didn't simply tell them to become one with their "inner side kick". Remember even the almighty Bruce had an instructor, Yip Man, in the Wing Chun kungfu system. He then pioneered his own form of crosstraining. Back on the subject, u really just have to look around man, if TKD is all u can get then try it, Bruce Lee would have trained in anything he could get his hands on - take in everything u can, and maybe later in life u will find the JKD within yourself or a place in which u can train in it. Drunken Monkey
isn't it strange how the top jkd guys all had a proper base in other martial arts before taking the jkd road? do you think that helped? or would they have all gotten to the same stage if they didn't learn from their instructors? let's take two people. stick one in a room with every single jkd book out there and every bit of equipement he could ever need. tell him to learn jkd. now take another person. y'know, the good old identical cloned person..... now stick him in a room with dan inosanto and tell him to learn jkd. who would you put your money on? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
