SSYZFR6 Posted September 5, 2004 Posted September 5, 2004 Hi all, I am new to the Forums and I just started taking Muay Thai kickboxing. I am taking 3 classes a week and figure I would just play with my heavy/speed bag a couple times a week as well. I guess I don't really have a certain question...I was just wondering if all you old pro's could give me some advice/tips or words of wisdom to a rookie who has no martial art experiance. Thanks for your time!
Jerry Posted September 15, 2004 Posted September 15, 2004 Hawzit! Well firstly, welcome to the world of real sports. I don't really have any advice and tips apart from that you should have a passion for the sport and not an interest. Be the bast you can be and never under estimate an oponant. Offence is the best defence and fight with your head. Always remain calm and don't let your emotions get in your way. Give your best when training and don't stand down when get beaten. Remember that it is a sport and must be enjoyed. Don't copy some one else's technique, watch a couple of fighters an formulate your own. Never be predictable and change your style and / or teqnique every few weeks. Have about three different fighting styles and combine them. I won't bore you to sleep, so that's it for now. Cheers! Shane Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 When first starting you should spend alot of time training only those techniques shown at your gym. Remember you want to perfect the basics first because basics will be your foundation and I believe basics are the best. BACK TO THE BASICS HIT HARD HIT FAST AND KEEP HITTING KICKS NEED TO BE POWERFUL AND GET THAT FOOT BACK TO THE GROUND AS QUICK AS POSSIBLE!!!! GOOD LUCK A True Martial Arts Instructor is more of a guide than anything, on your way to developing the warrior within yourself!!!!!
SSYZFR6 Posted November 9, 2004 Author Posted November 9, 2004 wow...2 months I feel like I have learned a lot! I guess I don't really have my style yet, just working the basics. Foot work, combos, kicking/punching... I feel a bit more in shape and I think I burned off a few beer cals that I worked so hard to get last summer They are stressing me to get my kick back as fast as I get it out there. I have a really good instructor. Apparently he has trained with all the big names and it definately shows to me. Glad they are goin easy on me though during sparing..lol Its funny, i see it coming but I just can't stop it. lol. Bringing me in slowly but I have the feeling they are going to be bringing it down on me here in a few months...uh oh. I think if I can just stay focus it would be easier to spar. Everyone seems to move at the speed of light..lol I guess I am still learning though. Ok thanks you guys for the feedback I appreciate it. Take it easy and keep your elbows down...lol (I just learned that the hard way the other day)

Carbs are what you use for energy. If you are active in sport, you will want plenty of them. 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate
