battousai16 Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 well, bearing in mind i have no experience with the 3 section staff what so ever, i'm going to assume that, even if most of the strikes don't revolve on its flexibility, it's still a flexible weapon. y'know, it can if it wants to. White Warlock Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 There are many elements to the 3-section that are clearly flex-oriented, but there are also many that can be applied as if they were two separate sticks. Yet, without the training one would receive from working with flexible weapons, the 3-section staff would be unrealized, just as a nunchaku, used as a sap, would be unrealized. So, i would say yes, it is a flexible weapon. "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro
battousai16 Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 kinda' like how if you, say, take a really flexible person who'll only kick below waist level... he's still flexible, he's just not kicking you in the head.... i guess.... tommarker Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 if you hold one section in each end, and it is in a shape different than a non-jointed staff, then you are taking advantage of its flexible properties I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
Matousek Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 Hi, I havent been on the forums for a few days now. I agree that a three sectional staff is flexible.Who wouldnt? Anyway, whats everyones favourite weapon? I have a new one,"the bo". I find one of the most versitile weapons out there! "Knowledge is Power!"~Matousek~Martial Arts
Vito Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 i think that nunchucks are concealable (in a coat or something) and can really do some damage. they are also difficult to defend with, so theyre one of the few traditional/ancient weapons that still have some sort of use today. battousai16 Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 ...except they're illegal in most places, aren't they? even though they're not technically illegal in WI cuz they don't have a blade, i still got a heavy warning for not having them in a carrying case. i got in a bit of trouble, because a policeman saw them on the seat of my car when i was in a parking lot, and my bag with the rest of my gear was in the trunk... he weren't to happy about that. it took a bit of explaining that indeed, i was on my way to the dojang. so yeah, even in places where they're essentially legal, carrying them around is still pretty sketchy. then again, no one seems to care when people walk around with knives... maybe the policeman was just having a bad day... harleyt26 Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 The three sectional staff is called "sansetsukun".There is also a three sectional nunchaku. migi kamae, migi bo kihon ichi
Drunken Monkey Posted September 11, 2004 Posted September 11, 2004 ....what it is called depends on where you come from. generally, i think you'll find that when translated, it still comes back to being 'three-sectioned-staff'. anyway. well, if you hold them as two separate sticks, you're still using three sticks.... the thing that gets me is that even when you are 'throwing' the three, you are still using it as a fixed weapon. hmm, but then again, there are whipping/flexible moves too..... well, if the nunchaku is considered a lexible weapon then i guess the three section is too. or maybe it's both. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
CloudDragon Posted September 12, 2004 Posted September 12, 2004 As far as concealibility, I would go with my .357 snubby over a pair of nunchaku, if it was life or death, it wouldn't matter. As far as flexible weapons, there are alot of options out there: Rope, rope dart, chain, manriki-gusari, shoge, and the list goes on... A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!
