Matousek Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 What does everybody think of nunchakus? I think they are great for excersizing your rists , hands and arms. I also think they serve as a great " hand, eye " coordination training tool. So, thats my oppinion...whats yours? "Knowledge is Power!"~Matousek~Martial Arts
Little Dragon Posted September 4, 2004 Posted September 4, 2004 I just like swingin them around and hitting things, lol nah. I think of them the same way you do to,im always in my backyard setting empty cans everywhere and running around hitting them to help me with my aiming and agility with them.I only use one pair of nunchaku's though. Matousek Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 lol...Im gonna make a pair sometime. "Knowledge is Power!"~Matousek~Martial Arts
White Warlock Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Excellent training tools that develop both unified and detached eye-hand coordination. I especially like the way my practice sessions with them have significantly increased my ability to wield just about any flexible item (wet noodles not withstanding). Matousek Posted September 6, 2004 Author Posted September 6, 2004 What other flexible weapons are there? "Knowledge is Power!"~Matousek~Martial Arts
aefibird Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 What other flexible weapons are there? Wet noodles for a start.... Also, things like whips, chains and ropes are other flexible weapons. Drunken Monkey Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 hmmm, does the three section staff count as a flexible weapon? i never quite figured that one out. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Shorinryu Sensei Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 hmmm, does the three section staff count as a flexible weapon? i never quite figured that one out. I would think so, but I could be wrong. It would be the first time this year that I was wrong though, so not likely. I personally, don't like the nunchauku very much. Yes, it has uses for coordination, etc as others have stated, but it is so over-abused by many (most?) martial artists that I have seen and done so improperly that I get really disgusted when I see someone pick them up. As a weapon, it's very versatile and has many uses besides just hitting someone with it. Traps, blocks, pressure points, etc are often overlooked by many sensei in leau (my word of the week ) of just swinging them around and hitting things. I don't use them much anymore myself. Just enough to keep my hand in and be able to teach it to my students that are that point in their training (black belt). My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
battousai16 Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 from what i've seen, 3 section staffs are generally clumped into the flexible weapons category "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
Drunken Monkey Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 well, i ask cos the majority of the techniques do not rely on their 'flexible' nature. so is it in fact, both? or um, maybe just i'm not that good yet....? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
