Which striking Styles do you think are the best for small people?

And please don't say. " all the styles are good for everyone". I've heard that before, i want other opinions about it, okay? lol

Thanks,

I love the striking styles of Muay Thai, Jun Fan and FMA. These are very close range striking systems using elbows, knees and headbutts as well as forearms and shins. I feel it's working great for me, and I'm a little shorter than most men 5'2". In reality, tall people do well in these arts also but their strategies are just different. You must adapt whatever you learn for your body-type, environment and opponent. I've had lots and lots of practice fighting the "short man's" game and my "style" of fighting looks very different from any of my instructors.

Depends on the time frame you are looking at. Personally, if you want to be able to look after yourself in a few years, then go for Mauy Thai, San Shou, Kick boxing, some Karate styles and TKD. If you have a lifetime to dedicate, Hsing I is just about the most powerful striking style out there (IMHO ofcourse).

Oh I'll advice myself..lol

Good styles for short people are mostly the ones who work in close-range...

I feel with good training you can be good in any martial arts but obviously there are styles that fit better with your personality, goals, and physical limitations.

Ive been looking for information, talked over with some instructors and trained with other and For short people i've found that Muay Thai, Xing Yi, sourthen chinese styles (wing chun, hung ga, choy lee fut, etc..), Okinawan karate styles (gojuryu, shorin ryu, etc..), Are good styles for short people.

Choi Kwang Do and boxing are two which spring to mind, you don't really want any art that focusses its attention on high kicks, since being completely fair, if you're short, you won't be able to kick them in the head. Any instructor who teaches you that you should kick to knee height is probably a good bet, and you'll want a fair amount of focus on the hands.

Please, I prefer the term "vertically challenged" :D

Shotokan works for me it is a hard striking style. I am not the largest guy but Im solidly built. Shotokans low stances and powerful hip rotation with precise striking can be devastating with proper training.

Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.

i agree with shotochem with that comment.

but i have to disagree with the muay thai and shan shou comments, i dont think it would be a good style for the more "vertically challenged" man, surely bigger men with bigger reach would be better. just what i think.

That is the same for every striking style, the reasoning for San Sho and MT is less long stance intensive like say shotokan, where a person with a longer stride and longer arms is going to have a major advantage. Really short people are built for grappling. Thats MHO anyway.
