Tao Hodos
Right now I am leaning towards Tang Soo Do because it is being taught near my home at a Recreation Center. I have also looked a little into Shaolin Kung Fu and Jeet Kun Do, but I am open to all styles. I am in my late twenties and I am interested in learning martial arts for the physical conditioning, self defense, spiritual, and discipline. I want something that teaches punches, kicks, and weapons. Please help me make this decision. <3 is a werd

Well, TSD is definitely a good choice for punches, kicks, and weapons, although the weapons taught will vary from organization to organization and instructor to instructor, some TSD systems being very light on weapons training, actually. As with anything else though, the best thing to do is to go out and actually watch the classes at each of the schools and find the best one for you... I teach at a YMCA and am continually amazed at the number of parents that simply sign up their kids at the beginning of the month without checking into the class at all first.... The Tang Soo Do instruction isn't going on right now....it starts on the 13th and I need to sign up pretty soon to get in on the five week session. So, observing the class isn't really an option right now. Is there much of a spiritual side to Tang Soo Do? <3 is a werd
47MartialMan
If that is the closest to you....... You need to start somewhere..... I'll take it..if I were you.....
Tao Hodos
If that is the closest to you....... You need to start somewhere..... I'll take it..if I were you..... There are a many dojos in the area within a 10-45 minute drive, the Tang Soo Do is close enough to walk to and seemed attractive to me because of this. I am still interested in choosing the Martial Art that fits me best though. <3 is a werd
TangSooGuy
Is there much of a spiritual side to Tang Soo Do? That's a tough question to answer...depends alot on what you mean by 'spiritual'... I would say yes, without a doubt, but others would probably argue no. Again it's something that is going to depend on the instructor, and on you. You really will get out of it what you put into it, physically, mentally, spiritually, and otherwise. Do you know anything at all about the class..what organization it is involved with, etc...
SevenStar
you really need to check out some classes first - you may miss the 5 week session, but that's better than being scammed. not all schools are created equal. You should visit each and find which is best for you.

Tao Hodos
Do you know anything at all about the class..what organization it is involved with, etc... I have some information on it, it doesn't say anything about any organizations. It does say that the classes are instructed by a 5th degree Master and his certified Tang Soo-Do instructors. It doesn't say who they're certified by though. <3 is a werd
