Shorinryu Sensei Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Look .....were all guilty of "one liners"......Mostly, its just to point out that whomever made a previous post, you felt made a good point.....If you dont think so.....then write why.......If you agree.....does it really matter that we say "good point".....it just shows that you agree with what was said, and want to let the poster know that you do.......as far as the forum "ranking system" goes......it means nothing in regards to your skills as a martial artist.......so what do you care what belt someone is ?????? Post your opinions....short or long........posters will answer as they see fit......If short answers offend you.......write long ones......If you dont like reading short posts.....dont......If it offends you THAT much.......find another forum.......no offense....just my opinion........I hope this post was long enough for you..... Short.....posts.....don't.....offfend.....me.....but.....dotted.....lines.....do..... Sorry, I'm in one of those moods today. My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
Master Jules Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 ...................sorry................ ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
47MartialMan Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 Jules......those......dots.....remind....me....of.......Capt......Kirk.......acting.........or..............Batman........trying...........to................get...........loose.......... Anyway good point-MJ. If someone comes back with a one liner.....Good point, I agree.....it is like England's Parliment members shouting "hear hear" to a subject from a speaker. Or giving someone "kudos" for a nicely written post. A mere one liner can be "pat-on-the-back" comment. If the one-liner has some negative overtones, then, out of courtesy, the author should try to explain with more than one line their views/opinions. Sometimes, I was about to post close to the same thing, then someone "beat" me to it. So my train of thought was interupted and all I could write was a one liner. If someone is posting a humorous response, it can be a one-liner.
Master Jules Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Agreed......lol ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
47MartialMan Posted September 8, 2004 Author Posted September 8, 2004 Ok Here is my definition (actually one of my instructors) of the term "martial arts", besides the English dictionary: The Martial Arts, 1.) is the "title" given to any study, system, or style of fighting. 2.) the arm forces/military, can be considered as a martial art. 3.) in the analogy that "sports" is the title given to any atheltic activity. 4.) therefore given the latter, a martial art can become a "sport".
Master Jules Posted September 8, 2004 Posted September 8, 2004 Martial---warlike ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Drunken Monkey Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 ......but the chinese/japanese terms for them don't mean 'warlike'. more often than not, they refer to hand/fist skills. what they call war-arts/skills are very specifically to do with war. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Master Jules Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 And when the warriors have no more weapons, they resort to hand to hand combat....weapons or no weapons, it is still war. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Drunken Monkey Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 ...well, i'm just being pedantic about the actual words and grammer used..... point is, they never called them 'war arts' originally. martial art is a westerm term that closest fits them as they are, not the origianl terms. i still saying 'fighting arts' is more accurate. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Master Jules Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 OK.....agreed. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
