Drunken Monkey Posted September 8, 2004 Share Posted September 8, 2004 but why shouldn't she? i mean, this is after the event. and as far as i can tell, it's not like the instructor knows before hand he'll get a present. i mean, where do you draw the line? if you can't get a present as a thank you for putting you through the training that lead up to the first real milestone in your training cos it might look bad, then what about the other times? does that mean you can't buy a birthday present? or a christmas present? or a present for their new born baby? just in case it might bring into question that black belt you get a few weeks later? or a few weeks before? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." The instructor issues it in the appreciation of all that the student had accomplished. The student recieves in the appreciation of all the instruction and guidance. The exchange of a appreciation was already intrinsic with the belt test. So why not give the instructor a present at any time else? Is the present a further token of appreciation? That is fine. In summary, a gift is a gift no matter the event or timing. It is the "thought" that accompanies the gift.
