First of all, you should determine what you want to learn karate (or the martial arts in general) for.

Do you want to do it for self defense purposes?

Do yo want to do it for sporting/competition purposes?

Do you want to do it to improve your general health and fitness level?

Based on your answers to these questions, you could probably determine what karate style (or maybe other martial arts) you would like to explore.

Shorin-ryu

Shito-ryu

Shotokan

Wadu-ryu

Goju-ryu

Isshinn-ryu

These are the more popular and well known (name-wise only) styles of karate. I practice Shito-ryu and it is like Wadu-ryu in the sense that it isnt well known about its tech's like shotakan or Shorin

I believe that the style you end up really enjoying will suit your personality. For instance if you seek balance in your style and life goju (hard/soft style) might be for you. Now if you are agressive I think shotokan might be a better route evasie the Shorin ryu etc......... Do some research find what style you would suit you persona best then train like you are dying for in fact you are so the clock is ticking

I agree - don't be nasty to kids....the ydecide ur nursing home!

But seriously - if you can't take advice from everyone then u shouldn't be in Martial Arts in the first place!

Anyway -I'm here to point out another style:

Shukokai - evolved from Shito-Ryu by Sensei's Tani and Kimura

Just did some pruning of this thread. Now pay attention here children of all ages.

1. Display courtesy and respect to each other and all opinions at all times. It is possible to disagree without insults, profanity and a general display of your own ignorance.

2. All ages, styles and experience levels are welcome here. And are required to respect each other.

What this means is if you are a young person it is every bit as rude for you to correct the spelling of and older poster as it is for them to put your opinions down.

Everyone understand?

My apologies SaiFightsMS. Please forgive my ignorance.
