beginner Posted September 2, 2004 Posted September 2, 2004 Mushin is what we strive to obtain......not avoid Ooops! Thats what I get for checkin the forum too fast before class - I get it now Jules, sorry about that. Slowly but surely
Master Jules Posted September 6, 2004 Posted September 6, 2004 Ineluki........that is why we strive to obtain a perfection we can never reach.....countless repetitions of (hopefully) correct form. Dre......no need to apologize.......learning from our mistakes is just as important as learning the right thing. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
CanuckMA Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Brit.......constant repetitions.....countless in fact.....is what will create "mushin"....the state of "no mind".....its the idea that the body will just "react", without thinking about it....... Which is IMHO a bad idea if you can't make sure that you react correctly. In a fight you don't want to have to think about the mechanics of a move. At most you have a split to decide which move, your body must then be able to just do it.
Master Jules Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 Exactly. ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"
Fish Posted September 7, 2004 Posted September 7, 2004 At the moment I'm trying to do reps at home slowly enough to be able to concentrate on executing them as I have been taught in the dojo. Lots of perfect practice makes perfect, and slowing it down seems to help. But I agree about the danger of picking up bad habits. The other thing is to be really patient!!!!!
